{My Going Away | Melt the World}

28 May

For my going away dinner, we decided to have it at Melt the World Cafe. I’ll let the pictures do the talking cos there was an overwhelmingly amount of food and we ate till it was near closing time!

That’s my default eating habit: desserts first, everything else can wait. I would have loved to try everything else but I was stuffed by the time I finished with my desserts!

28 May

There is always a long queue for a seat at the newly opened Antoinette at Mandarin Gallery whenever we pass by. We decided to join in the queue before I leave SG to see what the fuss is all about.

The queue took more than an hour!!! Bored, mom and I took turns to queue.

Halloween decoration from a nearby restaurant while it was my time to walk around.

We are finally seated!

We had to wait for a long while for our food to arrive so we decided to take pictures of the surrounds. As you can see, the place is pretty dim.

Salted caramel chocolate cake. It was good but not enough salted caramel in it to be called a salted caramel cake.

20120528-204713.jpg
Mushroom soup. It was too thick and chunky for our liking.

20120528-204802.jpg
Carbonara was good but not unlike Canele’s.

20120528-204900.jpg
Chicken and mash was average according to mom.

20120528-204946.jpg
Breads that were small and plain.

All in all, Antoinette wasn’t what the queues cracked out to be and we won’t be going back anytime soon.

The best thing that came out of the meal was this little silver box containing our bill. We happily parted our monies into the box!

I’ve been meaning to visit Compass Rose for their High Tea and was glad Mom and I managed to sample their delightful goodies before I left for Sydney. I had such a fantastic time stuffing food into me and ate so much I involuntarily merlioned the lot up after I peed. I don’t know what happened. Honest. I enjoyed the food and I’ve eaten heaps of buffet and it’s a first for me that it’s happened=(

Cantonese Style Noodle with Shredded Meat & Mushroom in Spicy Sauce

Deep Fried Vegetarian Spring Roll with Mushroom

Pan-fried Carrot Cake

Steam Assorted Mushroom Dumpling

Steamed Chives with Prawn & Pork Dumpling

Steamed Salted Egg Yolk Custard Bun

Honey Lemon Tea

We usually head to Crystal Jade, Tung Lok Signatures or Imperial Treasure whenever we crave for Chinese food. Today, it’s Crystal Jade to commemorate the end of May, yay! The noodle was very nicely made with just the right portions to make us polish the entire plate. The dim sum that really stood out were the crispy spring rolls and the ohsopillowy custard buns. Absolutely yummo. The chives dumplings? Not so much. In fact, they were so bad we couldn’t even finish one! I also like to end a Chinese meal with Honey Lemon Tea if it’s available on the menu=)

Sushi Mori Lunch Set

Do not even think of hitting Orchard Rd on a public holiday! The crowd is insane. The number of cars waiting for their turn into the car park entrance is enough to make you want to tear your hair out. We were stuck in the queue and there was no way for us to make a run for it. At the end of it all, we escaped into the safe haven that is Sun with Moon for a bit of air-conditioning hehe =p

The sushi was all right, just a tad too much fish roe. I thought the mini ramen was tasty but Mom would beg to differ=p and fried salmon in tempura sauce, which both of us agreed that it was overdone =\
